The following are the errors I'm receiving when performing the
"standard spectra autotune" on the 5971:

Tune stopped: MS fault 34

There was an excessive signal level
The diffusion pump is too hot

Tune stopped: MS fault 546

There was an excessive signal level
The diffusion pump is too hot
Difficulty with the HV detector supply

These errors only occur during the "Standard Spectra Autotune" and not
the "Max Sensitivity" or "Mid Mass" autotunes.

I know there is no excessive signal level because I can scan in the
PFTBA tune parameter screen (good vacuum and no air present in the
system).

I replaced the "too hot" sensor on the diffusion pump with the same
result. I even unmounted the sensor and ran the autotune--same errors
showed up.

Also note:
-the cooling fan behind the diffusion pump is running and free
of obstructions.
-temperature in the lab is <25 deg C
-checked diffusion pump fluid level - ok

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------

The 5973 can't autotune as well. Different symptoms altogether. I'm
waiting on a new multiplier, but a second opinion wont hurt:

Autotune stops and gives error "can't establish constant peak
widths." I've observed that the abundance for each of the three peaks
are very low (in the low 1000's) and no peak is discernible from
background noise.

Scanning in "edit tune parameter's" PFTBA mode at ~1600 EMV will give
start with a peak 69 abundance of ~800000 and will rapidly decline to
noise aboundance of >500. This occurs with either filament.

FOund out it was a rookie mistake. Ion focus and entrance lens leads
were switched after a source cleaning... I switched them back and no
more errors during autotune(!).
