Hi,

i have a mixed acid sample of HF+HCl+H2SO4 and i need to find out the
individual concentrations of the 3 acids. How can i do so?

Urgent help needed. Thanks.

Measure the concentrations of each of the anions.

What about the presence of salt impurities, they will add to the anion
concentration resulting which i will be getting the concentration of the
anions but not the concentration of the acids.

I thought you were dealing with a mixture of these acids
only. If there are salts,, and you know what those salts
are, you can measure their cations and make a correction.

Analysis of HCl, HF & H2SO4 Mixtures

T1: Determine the total acidity as meq/g by titrating with N NaOH with
thymol blue indicator.
.meq total acidity = V x N x f / wt (g)

T2: Take ~ 20g in a Pt crucible and evaporate off HCl, HF, @ 120degC
for 15-20 hours (overnight ) in an old oven leaving behind H2SO4.
.meq H2SO4 = % H2SO4 /4.9035

T3: Titrate HCl with N/10 AgNO3
.meq HCl = % HCl/3.646
Calculate all results as meq/g [V x N x f / wt (g) ]

T2 = H2SO4
T3 = HCl
T1 -T2 -T3 = HF

% HF = meq HF x 2.001
